I learned how the history is not the past, but the ongoing cause of the present. The people that we learned and heard about in the history textbook are still alive. History education should teach students about the connection between the past and today not to isolate the two.

I cherished making memories with the students of my learning cluster during the free time we had. We explored the night life Seoul had to offer and spent time learning about the culture in Korea through food and music. I also loved the convenience of walking to a nearby convenience store at night for a late night snack.

I appreciate how welcoming all of the foundations we visited were and how they were able to unite their voices in moments of hardship to me was a very powerful and emotional experience.

Visiting memorial sites for Sewol Ferry and Itaewon incidents was when I was able to realize the significance of what happened as well as how much I was numbed my feelings towards those stories. Also, I am sure everyone else was dealing with the heavy feelings that were difficult to digest, and sharing that moment was meaningful to me as we learn the importance of dark tourism together.

Meeting the hardworking parents who were afflicted by the Sewol ferry incident and the Itaewon disaster made me feel determined to share their dedication to achieving justice for their loved ones.

Everything was memorable, but the memorial site of the Sewol ferry incident was the most shocking and unforgettable place during the trip. By watching the video of the victims of the Sewol ferry incident, I realized that we should understand that we lost people’s lives that are supposed to make future by many incidents. We should not repeat the same history in the future.

One of the memorable moments on the trip is when we met families of victims of the Sewol Ferry incident. I felt their unimaginable pains and sorrows and their strong determination to share this incident so that no similar disaster will happen.

For me, this trip was an experience of a lifetime. I witnessed the most cruel truths of life through the dark sites we visited. Interacting with parents of victims of disaster will be a memory that will be etched in my heart forever. It made me realize that I should be grateful for everything that I have, while also thinking of ways to seek justice for the families who suffered without any fault of theirs. I hope they can accomplish everything that they're striving for today, and the world is a much kinder place to them in the future.

An experience I will cherish the most from the trip is visiting several Sewol memorial organizations. Hearing the stories of parents who have lost their children and their fight for justice and remembrance was both heartbreaking and empowering.

Among the many places we visited, the most memorable place was visiting the 4.16 memory house. Looking at the replicated classrooms and each student’s life, passion, photos, and words from the loved ones truly made me aware of the incident, felt deep sorrow, and sympathized with the victims and victims' families.
